She introduced Tejano to the mainstream with her innovative approach. Her untimely death splintered her growing popularity and, as often happens the moment a brilliant, warm singer dies too young, it caused many to grieve her unrealized potential. In order to prevent her achievements from becoming forgotten, many fans over the last few times have been motivated to achieve more. Her death in a shooting triggered emotions in the Latino culture that can be similar with Elvis Presley, and John Lennon. The singer was extremely popular throughout Latino communities throughout North America her music crossed lines of cultural difference to affect the lives of children and old alike. Selena was a sexy and flamboyant stage performer and was often called the Latina Madonna. Off-stage Selena was an excellent role model since she actively participated in antidrug and AIDS campaigning.
